  • When difficult times come, it can be easy to question, "Why?" When we are overwhelmed with responsibilities and drowning in a sea of tasks that need to be done, we can easily become discouraged. I have found great comfort in holding a strong belief in God and reaching out to him in prayer. As I have done so, I look back on my life and see how all the trials and struggles have worked together for my good. They have made me and my family stronger. As you pray, believe in God and move forward to experience life you will be strengthened in your life.

  • Pray

  • When speaking to a large congregation of women, religious leader Thomas S. Monson explained:

  • "We were not placed on this earth to walk alone. What an amazing source of power, of strength, and of comfort is available to each of us. He who knows us better than we know ourselves, He who sees the larger picture and who knows the end from the beginning, has assured us that He will be there for us to provide help if we but ask. We have the promise: 'Pray always, and be believing, and all things shall work together for your good.'"

  • Prayer is the act of calling upon God. It is a quiet time set aside where you can privately, or together with your family, express gratitude to him for all that you have. Prayer is an opportunity to seek the help of heaven in times of difficulty and to seek for counsel in times of uncertainty. With prayer, you can reach out to God in good times and in times of trouble.

  • Believe

  • If you do not believe in God, start with a willingness to believe. Believe that you have a loving Heavenly Father who desires only your success and happiness. Believe that this all knowing, all powerful being has your best interest in mind. Believe that the trials and the struggles that you have had to endure will refine you and make you a better person. Believe that God will help you when you ask him to. Believe that he is always watching over you and is anxious to bless you.

  • As you hold fast to these beliefs, you will find that your attitude will transform. You will be more willing to submit to the trials of life because you know that they will work together for your good. Having a belief in God will allow you to have a more optimistic viewpoint on life and you will be able to adapt to any set of circumstances no matter the difficulty.

  • Experience

  • When the difficult times come, this is the time for you to put your belief into practice. Religious leader Neil Andersen told his congregation that distancing yourself from God "during a trial of faith is like leaving the safety of a secure storm cellar just as the tornado comes into view." Living close to God in the rough times as well as the quiet ones will help you to be more resilient.
