  • Relationships are hard work. They take patience, understanding and love on both parts. While you love to make your sweetheart happy, there are certain things you can do to ensure your happiness as well. In fact, if you do not do these five things, you will never have the right tools you need to be happy in your relationship.

  • 1. Trust him

  • Trust is a key to happiness in a relationship. If you do not trust your spouse, you will constantly wonder where they are, who they are with or what are they doing. The stress and anxiety you will receive from worry and second guessing his every move will take away your happiness.

  • In order to be happy, you have to trust. Trust can take a long time to build, and is very fragile. Make sure you express your concerns to your spouse when you feel something is not right. It could just be a misunderstanding, but if you let the doubt fester, it will turn into a bigger problem.

  • 2. Give him space

  • If you want to be happy with your husband, make sure to give him space. Tell him to go hang out with the guys, or do a hobby he really likes. It allows him to take some time for himself away from you.

  • This not only makes him miss you, but it also gives you time away from him. If you spend 24/7 with each other, it might not be great for your relationship. He may feel smothered or like he cannot do the things he likes to do. Having a few hours apart every once in a while actually allows you to reconnect afterwards.

  • 3. Make time for each other

  • Sometimes we get so lost in everyday life that we do not set aside one-on-one time for each other. It is vital to your happiness that you spend at least five minutes alone with him. Set aside time each week to have a date where it is just the two of you. No kids, no friends and no distractions. Have fun, make new memories and just be together.

  • It is also a good idea to take a few minutes everyday to reconnect. You can share these moments by discussing your days, cuddling on the couch watching your favorite TV show or eating a nice dinner together. The point is to spend quality time with each other. Reconnecting each day and having a weekly date will keep your relationship fresh and keep you happy.

  • 4. Learn his love language

  • One way to ensure your happiness is to learn what makes him happy. We all respond differently to love. Some people accept love with words, while others accept acts of service such as doing a chore that is on their list. We are all different, and knowing which love language your spouse responds to makes your job easier. See what he likes and learn what he needs to feel love, and you'll feel happier too.

  • 5. Communicate your needs

  • Let him know how to make you happy. You can learn his love language, make time for him, give him his space and trust him, but there are things you need from him as well.

  • You need to feel accepted, loved and trusted. The only control you have in this area is to tell him, and then leave it in his hands. If you are feeling neglected, tell him. If you feel he isn't meeting your needs, let him know. If you really want a girl's night but your schedule doesn't allow for that, make sure he understands it will make you happy. Communication is key to a successful relationship, and if you don't tell him how you feel, he will probably never know.

  • These five things are not hard to do. Once you do them, you will see how much happier your relationship is. There will still be misunderstandings and you will still fight sometimes, but you'll be more willing to work things out. And that is the most important factor for making it through until the end.
