I became so self-conscious about my damaged hair after a cashier in a grocery store commented on it while we were conversing. I felt a little stunned when a man who I was standing in front of for maybe 27 seconds quickly identified the texture of my hair just by looking at me.
I asked myself, "Do men actually notice those things about women?" For the longest time I believed that men never cared for a change in hairstyle or what outfit I chose to put on that day but I was mistaken.
Here are some things men pay attention to and actually find extremely unattractive in women:
1. Excessive makeup
I'm talking about a "cake face", the type of look that just screams excessive. It's best to keep your makeup looking natural and simple. Makeup isn't meant to mask your face, just highlight your natural beauty.
Women who reveal a large amount of skin are seen as attention seekers. The way you dress should communicate respect and class, letting the men in your life want to get to know you as a person, not the person under the clothes.
3. Dry skin
In a man's eyes, women are soft and delicate. That image is shattered the moment they touch scaly skin. It doesn't require too much money or effort to use a lotion that'll keep your skin smooth and hydrated.
4. Dramatic nails
This trend of dazzling and dramatic nails might be popular in the media, but men aren't fond of the new trend. Having nails like that looks high maintenance; settling for a basic neutral color is an easy way of keeping things girly but not going overboard.
Anyone would be annoyed with someone who complains constantly. Keep the nagging to a minimum; it will set you apart from other women.
6. Bad posture
Work hard on your posture. Try not to slump or lean forward when you walk and choose to walk with a sense of elegance and confidence. This will attract the attention of men.
7. Excessive perfume
Overwhelming your naturally sweet scent with perfume is an easy way to steer men away from you.
Don't use vulgar language. Crass and harsh language is something no man likes to be around. A gentlemen wants to be with a lady, and a lady doesn't curse.
9. Over-styled hair
Just imagine: he is leaning in for a kiss and goes to grasp your head in between his hands and instead gets a handful of sticky gel. Let your mister run his hands through soft tendrils not stiff, styled hair.
This needs to be a rule for every living person. Please take care of yourself. Put on deodorant, take showers and clean out your ears. Women are also often expected to go the extra mile by shaving. I'm not saying it needs to happen 24/7 but putting the effort definitely shows.
11. Chapped lips
Invest in some Carmex or Blistex, you won't regret it.
Unless it's a natural glow, men will just say "no". When he sees a woman who looks more like an Oompa Loompa, he'll steer clear.
13. Teen spirit
You are not in high school anymore. It's time to own up to your actions and decisions. No man wants to go out with a woman and feel like he is babysitting her the whole time.
Men can tell when you are stretching the truth. Soon enough, he'll realize you don't actually like his favorite team. Being honest and approachable is the best option.
Men like to feel challenged, so what's the point of playing dumb? Having smart and educated conversations will make him crazy for you.
16. Bad manners
Proper manners are important especially when you want a person to see that you know how to present yourself in front of others without embarrassing them. Remembering some simple ways of presenting yourself as a woman will make your date feel like he's dating a princess.
This may seem a bit inevitable, especially when it is that time of the month. A simple cleanser, exfoliator and moisturizer is the easiest way of keeping your skin feeling clean and refreshed.
If you have to stop and look at yourself at every mirror that you walk by, men will be turned off. No man wants to have a woman who is more obsessed with looks than actually having a good time.
19. Thick brows
Keeping all facial hair trimmed is essential.Keeping everything in place is key for looking naturally beautiful without having to try so hard.
20. Damaged strands
Keeping hair soft and luscious will catch a man's eye.
While it's true men do notice things about women, ultimately, your opinion is what matters most. So, the next time you're seeking to impress a guy strut your stuff first, but know he's paying attention.
