  • We've all had those days when we hit the snooze button just one too many times (Okay, fine. It was seven times too many.) and now you've only left yourself 10 minutes to get ready to face the world.

  • Heck, even if you were on top of your life and got out of bed at a decent time, you don't want to spend more time than necessary to primp yourself for the day. You have so many better things you could be doing with your time (like crawling back in bed and watching another episode of Gilmore Girls).

  • You don't have to be one of those blessed individuals who looks like she sings harmonies with woodland creatures in her spare time in order to look great in a snap. Here are tips on how to get ready in 10 minutes or less and still look fantastic:

  • Take your time

  • You might think taking your time is counter-intuitive when you're trying to get ready quickly, but rushing is only going to cause a frenzy which will result in lost contacts and smudged eyeliner. Correcting these mistakes will suck up your time. Relax and act with purpose.

  • Make a playlist

  • Create a playlist or select a podcast that lasts 10 minutes. This will help you pace yourself and keep you accountable if you go overtime. Bonus points for listening to upbeat music. The quick tempo will naturally make you move faster.

  • Wear lipstick

  • If you slap on a bold-colored lipstick, you can skip the rest of your makeup routine (really). Wearing bright lipstick makes you look well put-together and people will think you look gorgeous even if you don't have time to smear concealer, foundation, highlighter, mascara, eyeliner and all that jazz onto your face.

  • Drink water first

  • Drinking a glass of cold water first thing in the morning has obvious health benefits, but it can also wake you up and boost your energy level so you are ready to seize the day.

  • Do your hair the night before

  • Put your hair in braids or curlers before you go to sleep so when you wake up, all you have to do is pull them out and you're good to go. You can do this the night before by multi-tasking. When you're winding down with your favorite book, work on braiding your hair at the same time.

  • Or stop doing your hair

  • You're going to hate it at first. That's just how it is. But if you can grit your teeth and stop using the curling wands and flat irons (which are frying and ruining your hair), you'll later realize this is one of the better choices you've made in life. Embrace your natural hair texture. Love yourself and your hair the way it is. After you get used to it, you might enjoy hearing everyone compliment your natural hair.

  • Embrace dry shampoo

  • Of course you can't skip the hair wash every day, but you can seriously cut down on all that shampooing, conditioning and blow-dry time by simply getting yourself a bottle of dry shampoo. It absorbs the extra oils and gives your hair a volume boost. Not bad.

  • Put your hair in a bun

  • It's shocking how put-together a messy bun can make you look. If you aren't skilled in the world of knots, put in some practice time and find one that makes you look fantastic. That way on days when your hair doesn't cooperate, you've got that trick in your back pocket.

  • Have three go-to outfits

  • You can waste so much time staring at your closet, putting clothes on your body, analyzing them in the mirror and repeating. Fix this problem by having some planned outfits ready to go. Even if you don't have a wardrobe full of fabulous outfits (or maybe you do), you should definitely have a few outfits you can rely on to make you look fantastic no matter what is going on with your hair and makeup.

  • Use double-duty makeup

  • Forget double-duty, get makeup that does every duty. If you can't bring yourself to skip primer and cover-up, find a foundation that does all that. If you hate how your eyelashes look without some eyelash curler action, buy mascara that has curling power. You can shorten your makeup routine by getting products that do two jobs at once.
