Everyone has a dream. In the movie Peter Pan, Mrs. Darling describes how her husband "has made many sacrifices for his family and put away many dreams. He put them in a drawer, and sometimes, late at night, we take them out and admire them. But it gets harder and harder to close the drawer." Like Mr. and Mrs. Darling, it's easy to think back on and admire dreams you've had, but there doesn't seem to be a plausible way for you to accomplish them. So, in the end you have to close the door on your dreams, and each time is harder than the next.
Perhaps the time to accomplish your dreams was yesterday. If you have your sights set on a day when your dream is realized, you will never see that day come if you don't start doing something about it now. Though your dreams feel out of reach, there are three things you can start doing now to help you on the path to accomplishing them.
We all live and run busy lives. Our days are filled to the brim with plans and schedules that are unwilling to bend or break. There are 24 hours in a day and despite how busy your schedule is, you'll be surprised to find how much time there is for you to put toward accomplishing your dreams. The challenge is setting aside and making time for your dreams. If you don't make time for them, they will never be accomplished.
In order to make time for our dreams it requires early mornings, late nights and long weekends. It requires sacrifice - bad things for good and good things for better. Family always comes first. Do not sacrifice them for your dream, but allow them to be part of it. Be willing to lean on others in the efforts to reach your dreams, and they will guide you on your journey to accomplish everything you've set your mind to.
Immerse yourself in nature. Nature is the one escape we have from the whirlwinds of life. It allows us to re-energize our motives and rejuvenate our souls. Albert Einstein once said, "Look deep into nature, and you will understand everything better." When you are lacking inspiration or knowledge, removing yourself from a noisy situation and immersing yourself in nature will allow you to search for the answers you seek. Sometimes, in order to find truth and realize our full potential, we must search deep inside ourselves in a quiet, personal place. Nature provides that setting for us.
Most of all, in order to accomplish your dreams, you must believe in yourself. Doubt always manages to creep in to anything you set your mind to. Doubt can be paralyzing and make you believe that you aren't worthy of your dreams.
Nothing is impossible. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. In Thomas Edison's endeavors to invent the light bulb, he said, "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work."
We will have to overcome many roadblocks and you will fail numerous times on the path to accomplishment. Those setbacks shouldn't stop you from pressing forward and doing whatever you can to follow your dreams and attain the seemingly impossible. If you believe in yourself and your ability to overcome challenges, you can achieve anything.
Whether big or small, your dreams matter. No matter how far away they may seem, there are little things you can start doing now to reach for your dreams. Take it one step at a time, and one day your hard work will pay off.
