With fall right around the corner, it's time to break out the cozy clothes that have been hiding in storage the past few months.
The coming season is the perfect time to change or add flare to your wardrobe without doing anything too drastic to your closet. Meaning, you should add some darker tones to your collection or just a few items that you've been dying to try out.
Regardless, protection from the upcoming cold is a necessity, so you might as well embrace the layers and neutral colors as they begin to start.
Here are 10 fashion must-haves to add to your closet for the upcoming fall season:
1. The cozy cardigan
By now the majority of us have one of these. You know what I am talking about- the seriously warm material that no matter what climate you are in, you can rely on this piece of clothing. It almost feels like your travel size blanket; it always available to you at any moment and you can always depend on the "cardy."
You either have that one that goes with everything or a collection of colors. This is the perfect item to match every outfit and provide you the warmth that you need. You can never go wrong with a scarf around your neck.
3. The turtleneck sweater
Probably the coziest article of clothing you could wear as a shirt. Not only is this sweater insanely stylish, but it also makes for a professional look that makes you look mature beyond your years.
Your summertime sandal just transformed into winter time booties. The warm footwear keeps everything tucked in and also comes in so many styles that it's almost impossible to not want a pair of these in your closet. I would suggest a cool tone such as a sugar brown or black- it's neutral and matches any outfit, so you can get ready on the go.
I remember my first vest I bought a few years back, I got it from Target in an XL from the children's section; I love it and it still fits like a dime. Although this item can be tricky because most people believe that you will end up spending an obscene amount of money on this clothing item, but that is far from the truth. It does not have to be authentic fur or the thickest coat you can find. Just something simple that will keep you tucked in and warm, plus the vest always pairs fashionably with the previously mentioned booties.
6. Thigh/Knee-high boots
This all depends on preference, personally I like thigh high boots simply because it covers more and will definitely come in handy when the long winter months hit. Boots are essential in any woman's closet, especially when the cold air begins to set in, simply because you do not want to get frostbite! Choose whatever style you want but in the end boots are mandatory.
7. The leather jacket
This is my personal favorite article of clothing to wear for any fall or even winter occasion. There's something about leather that makes you look edgy and attractive. Like your hiding a secret and someone has to really work hard to find out what it is that you're hiding. It's hard to explain but trust me when I say that you need to invest in a leather jacket; it will change your life!
Fall is not the month to be having your hands outside carrying your keys, wallet and chapstick. It's best to have a medium sized tote that can just carry everything while you enjoy the warmth of having your hands in your pockets and away from the cold.
10. The knit dress
You need something that screams classy, something that symbolizes that you are over summer and prepared for the upcoming months. The knit sweater keeps you warm but also finds a way to just make everything work. Throwing on a knit dress with boots and a beanie is a comfy and easy way to hit the town while still looking impeccably fashionable. It's almost like you don't even need to try!
All you can really do at the end of the day is be prepared- just prepare for the possibility of waking up to a cold morning and being ready to take it on because it is just what you were expecting to happen!
