Whether it's new motherhood, camping, an exotic journey or an emergency situation, sometimes a proper shower or bath is not possible for several days at a time. You may not have access to running water, or just can't find the time to rinse off amid the chaos. But if you take the time to prepare, you too can survive five days without showering — and look good doing it!
If you keep an emergency hygiene kit ready and stocked with these essentials, you'll have much less to worry about in these situations.
1. Baby wipes
All hail personal wipes! The wet wipes sensation has swept the nation and transformed personal hygiene forever. For babies or adults, scented or flushable, wipes are a gal's best friend. Use when showering is not an option, or even to get that extra clean feeling when you "go."
2. Oral care
Keeping your mouth clean and healthy is essential when you are skimping on personal hygiene. Always keep antibacterial mouthwash or toothpaste and a toothbrush handy. You can even gargle and rinse with baking soda and peroxide to kill oral bacteria. Being prepared for all occasions means planning ahead, but you'll be glad you did. And if you are desperate and don't have anything on hand, you can use a wet wash cloth to physically remove the plaque from your teeth and tongue, then rinse for a clean finish.
3. Fresh clothes
Changing your clothes can help keep you fresher and healthier if you can't bathe. But if you don't have an extra outfit, using fabric refresher can at least save you and others from those harsh biological odors. Just remember to remove the clothing before spraying, and allow it to dry completely before putting it back on.
4. Hair care
Dry shampoo and leave-in conditioner can relieve you of that greasy, gritty feeling that can become so irritating after days without bathing. There is some controversy about the health of dry shampoo, but in a pinch it could be just the thing you need. You may not be able to take hair ties or a brush into an emergency situation; but if you have some, it may help you avoid a tangled mess.
