  • Scott Kelly has had an unearthly year.

  • Kelly, an American astronaut, spent 340 days in the International Space Station 249 miles above Earth along with Russian cosmonaut Mikhail Kornienko, according to The New York Times. The two landed back on Earth Tuesday night at 11:26 p.m. in Kazakhstan.

  • Kelly could not have been more excited when he returned to his home planet.

  • After landing, Kelly arrived in Houston at 11:45 p.m. Wednesday night to meet with NASA officials, Jill Biden, the wife of Vice President Joe Biden, and his identical twin, Mark Kelly, who is also an astronaut, the Times reported. He received an apple pie upon arrival.

  • He also met with his family. According to ABC News, his two daughters and his girlfriend were there to greet him, along with his twin brother and his sister-in-law, former Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.

  • He told reporters, "It's great to be back in Texas, on U.S. soil. It's just an unbelievable feeling to be back here on planet Earth, back in our great country, and back with all my family and friends," according to ABC.

  • Kelly won't address the mass media until 2 p.m. on Friday. He's also expected to answer questions on Reddit at 11 a.m. on Friday.

  • Scientists will then use Kelly's year in space for some research. As our own Kelsey Dallas reported, researchers plan to survey Kelly's change in health by comparing his body's wellness to his twin brother's, who was on Earth, hoping it will show them what the effects of a year in space can do to a person.

  • After NASA conducts its research — which will "help NASA better understand what happens to an astronaut's physical and mental health during a prolonged stay in a micro-gravity environment," according to ABC — Kelly said "I'm going to go home and jump in my pool."

  • But this doesn't mean you have to wait until Friday to see what Kelly's last year was like. Kelly has posted photos and videos on Twitter that show sunsets, views from space and cool images of Earth. Here's a quick glance at a few of them.
