30 ways to make yourself really happy today

Finding joy in everyday life is up to you. Here are a few suggestions to help make that happen.

  • Happiness is a choice. Here are a few choices that can help make you happy this very day. Choose at least some and enjoy your day. Here we go!

  • 1. Buy a fragrant flower

  • Smell it and put it in a vase on your desk. Drink in the beauty of this delicate creation.

  • 2. Call a friend

  • Hearing the voice of a good friend will put a smile in your heart, and theirs, too.

  • 3. Call your mother and tell her you love her

  • When you make her day it can't help but rub off on you. Try it on your dad, too.

  • 4. Read a Bible verse or two

  • Start with Psalm 37:4 - "Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart."

  • 5. Hold a baby

  • Kiss those chubby little cheeks. If you can't hold one right now, look at a picture of one. This video will give you a glimpse of how cute babies are and how fun it is to watch them.

  • 6. Read a story to your child or grandchild

  • Have fun creating animated voices as you read. If you need ideas for good children's books here are some suggestions.

  • 7. Take a walk in the park, any season

  • Breath in the fresh air and surrounding beauty. It will automatically bring on happy feelings.

  • 8. Look at the reflections of the sun as it sets at the close of day

  • Its rays have a way of putting a gild on everything they touch.

  • Pet shops will let you do this. And you don't even have to buy the puppy. But be prepared, you may not be able to resist.

  • Caring about others always lifts the spirits of the one being visited and the one who came to visit.

  • 12. Curl up in a cozy place and read a chapter in your new novel

  • Take a current magazine, and read aloud one of your favorite articles from it. It can open the door to an interesting discussion. Leave it for your loved one to enjoy later.

  • 23. Take a soft, cuddly teddy bear to a sick friend—no matter the age

  • Tell her to hug it when you're gone as a reminder that she is loved.

  • 24. Play with your kids

  • Jump into piles of fall leaves, push them in a swing, chase them around the house, play hide and seek. Just have some fun with them.

  • 25. Cook your spouse's favorite dinner

  • The whole time you're working on it think how much your honey is going to love it.

  • Start with the ones closest to home and see again how blessed you are.

  • Tell a stranger in line at the store, "What a beautiful baby you have." Or "I like your scarf." Think of what it is you like about that person and say it. It will brighten your day and theirs.

  • Have fun doing at least some of these things and you are bound to have a really happy day.
