  • Kids are amazing human beings and are mostly willing to try new things and seek to overcome obstacles. Sometimes, there are pretty huge obstacles to overcome along the way.

  • Meet Jahmir Wallace, a ten-year-old boy who was born without arms. He had a desire to learn a musical instrument, which seems like an impossible task for a person with no arms.

  • With some help from a local music store and supportive teachers and administrators, Jahmir proves the impossible is possible. Since he uses his feet to do everything, playing the trumpet would be no different. The music store created a stand that would hold the trumpet up so he could blow into it while he uses his feet and toes to press down the valves to play the different notes.

  • Jahmir's advice is simple. "Anyone out there that would like to try an instrument, go ahead and try it! You never know - whatever happens. If you like it, you like it. If you don't, you don't. Keep on trying." Check out these "3 powerful reasons why your kids should take music lessons."

  • It's good, sound advice. Don't take no for an answer regardless of your perceived or actual limitations or roadblocks. You may need to go about it a different or unconventional way, but anything is possible.

  • For Jahmir, his family and school have helped him find ways to accomplish what he needs in life. Small adjustments and solutions to his surroundings make it possible for him to get along in life with no arms. Similarly, if you have a family member with a disability, you may need to make adjustments in your home to accommodate their needs. Read this article for things you may need to change to assist those with disabilities in your home.
