  • You never know what challenges and obstacles life will throw your way. In just one day, your entire world can change.

  • Kristian Anderson was diagnosed with cancer in 2009 and has been receiving chemotherapy ever since. He made this short video for his wife, Rachel's, birthday to thank her for all her love and support.

  • Being supportive, happy and patient while we and our loved ones go through difficulties is a trial in and of itself. However, it is possible. Here are three things that can help you when those dark clouds come along.

  • Be grateful

  • Even when you are faced with darkness in your life, you can always find light. For example, Anderson has a supportive and sweet wife to help him through his dark days. Maybe you are blessed financially in the face of employment challenges or you are able to spend a few days with a loved one before he or she passes away. There is always something to be grateful for.

  • Be charitable

  • You never know what challenges and obstacles others are facing. Many people are fighting inward battles, and you never know how your kind acts can help them face each day. Stay in touch with friends and family, open doors for strangers, be willing to give when others ask. When you are serving others, you are more likely to forget about yourself and get lost in other's needs.

  • Be prayerful

  • You can't endure the darkest days without divine intervention. Pray to God throughout the day and ask for help. Ask for help to be patient, supportive, kind and joyful. The help you receive from above will make the difference.

  • Challenges will come. There is no way to hide. However, how you handle trials will make all the difference in your life and in the lives of your family members.

  • If you have a hard time finding joy in life, here are 20 things to do when you need a smile.
