A house fire is probably the worst nightmare of most families.

Does your family have an emergency escape plan in place? Do your children know what to do and how to escape?

Nine-year-old, Galaxy Kong, not only knew what to do but also saved her dad when her home went up in flames. First, Galaxy woke her father. "I saw the window and told my dad to open it," she said.

Because of fire training she'd received from firefighters at her school, Galaxy took another important step. She placed a towel under the door to prevent more smoke from getting into the room.

Galaxy and her dad were able to escape through the second story window.

Thanks to Galaxy's quick thinking, no one was hurt. The fire was put out in about 20 minutes.

This could have ended much differently had Galaxy not known what to do in this particular emergency. Is your family ready for a fire? Earthquake? Tornado? Flood? It is important to have an escape plan, first aid knowledge and other plans to keep your family safe when an emergency strikes.
